Saint Vincent Panels

A landing page and a collection of special projects about the restoration of the Saint Vincent Panels.

The polyptych, consisting of six panels, has been surrounded in controversy since its discovery in the late 19th century, with continuing dispute over the identity of the painter and the subjects portrayed on the panels.

The project documents the restoration process, while also diving into the panels history and figures — and the users can really "dive" into the painting, zooming on the gigapixel image and exploring the panels with different layers (the actual painting, x-ray imagining, infrared imaging or the actual oak panels).

The landing page is the first step in exploring the panels, while also directing the readers to each special project: one on the probable identity of the subjects portrayed; the other about the problems faced by the restoration team.
